How to observe the Savoir dying for our sins
The Heavenly Father started an observance in Egypt that would remind Israel that He delivered them from Egypt and to show them that The Savoir will come to save them and us from our sins. He would deliver us from the punishment, death for our sins. That was named, The Passover. God will Passover our sins.
How would they know the Savoir came? He would be crucified at the time of the killing of the lambs at Passover. For 1500 years people in Israel looked for the Messiah to come and take the place of the Passover lamb. Now His Disciples’ would observe His death at the same time they had kept the Old Passover. Another type shown to us was that of Israel coming out of Egypt just as we are to come out of sin. Egypt represented sin. The death of the lamb and its blood on the door post represents that we need to have the blood of the Savoir on the door post of our hearts.
Some people observe the resurrection of Jesus on Sunday morning. To understand the start of this, see the Nicene Creed. Part of the start of that idea was to separate Christian practice from things Jewish.
Some people observe the Lord’s Supper. In the Church of God 7th day, this started in the early 1920’s when two men came into the church and pushed for this change. Some congregations would not change to this idea. The Lord’s Supper is observed on the night at the START of the 14th of Nisan. That is when the Savior ate supper with the 12 and showed them the change from eating a lamb to the unleavened bread.
In the early church, and history shows it being observed in 150 AD, they observed what they called ‘The Christian Passover. This is observed about 3 or 4 hours after Jesus was killed mid afternoon on the 14th, of Nisan, so it is eaten just after sundown, at the start of the 15th Nisan. In the Church of God 7th day, much confusion was caused when the 2 men started the teaching of changing to keeping ‘The Lord’s Supper, and even people who stayed with the old time on the 15th Nisan, started calling their service ‘The Lord’s Supper’. This only allowed for many arguments over the years because people could not separate the real reason each person was observing the time they preferred.
The simple description is; if you want to observe the Lord’s Supper, you will observe it on the start of the 14th Nisan. If you want to observe Jesus DEATH, you will observe it on the start of the 15th Nisan. It IS NOT the Lord’s Supper. Most people including the early church and many groups today call this, ’ The Christian Passover’.
Oh, what about Paul calling it The Lord’s Supper? Unless we find the original manuscript, we do NOT know if Paul really used that description or did he say The Christian Passover, and the Roman copyist wanting to influence everyone away from any Jewish term, so changed it? We DO know that those men were open about being anti- Jewish. Bottom line; do not hang a doctrine on one verse.
Jesus taught that we are to love one another; this includes those who observe His Death differently than we do. They believe just as sincerely as we do about their choice in how to honor Jesus. They do what they do because they love Him and want to show Jesus honor for dying for us.
